Shoalhaven City Council Mayor, Joanna Gash has welcomed competitors taking part in the Hobie 16 World Championships before the official commencement of racing on Jervis Bay this Saturday.
The Hobie 16 World Championships will see over 500 competitors from 27 different nations competing on Sailors Beach, Jervis Bay between Saturday 1 February and Saturday 15 February.
Mayor, Joanna Gash said the Hobie 16 World Championships were the pinnacle competition for the largest and most popular catamaran class in the world.
“I would certainly like to welcome and wish each and every competitor the best of luck in the upcoming World Championships,” said Clr Gash.
“I can think of no more scenic backdrop for such a prestigious event than the beautiful surrounds of Jervis Bay.
“The upcoming World Championships have already been confirmed as the largest in the event’s 38 year history.”
“The hosting of this event is obviously a tremendous coup for the local area, with Destination NSW estimating the World Championships to provide the economy with a $3.4 million shot in the arm.”
“I would certainly encourage all the competitors, officials and spectators to make time to explore the Shoalhaven during their stay.”
